THE NEXT WORK
My initial idea was to make a pair of sculptures based on the various subject matters found on the Parthenon.
I have visited the British Museum often and always found the Selene horse head particularly alluring. Moving to Italy brought with it an opportunity to work from a cast that made reference to the Selene head, albeit in a more baroque style. A great subject for any aspiring sculptor it was also crucial to allowing me to gain vital experience of marble.
The first task was to make the horse head and then follow that by designing a completely original partner piece.
The proposed partner piece will be of Selene herself, in the act of driving her horses. Essentially an original portrait piece, the head will be modelled from life.
Although the sculptures are intended to be seen as a pair each will exist as a stand-alone piece.
Both pieces will be of comparable size and orientation thus allowing for a paired display of some kind.
