Vaulted niche-head repair
19th century vaulted niche-head. York Minster. East Front.
The stone has been incorrectly bedded as the cusped moulding on the right-hand-side has sheared off along a natural bedding plane. This plane extends across the whole face of the stone.
Due to its prominent location the stone requires a new piecing to reinstate architectural detail as well as further consolidation, pinning and lime mortar repairs.
